Student arrested for fatally stabbing Binghamton freshman

A college freshman was stabbed to death on his State University of NY campus Sunday night in what officials said was a targeted attack. The suspect was "described as a light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark Puma hooded sweatshirt", according to the university, and he "remains at large".

The victim was identified as a 19-year-old male who is a first-year student. This had been the second killing of students there in five weeks, grieving and departing the campus tense. He was described in the Facebook post "as a light-skinned male wearing dark trousers and a dark, Puma hooded sweatshirt".

'At this time, the police are confident this was not a random act, ' the university said on its website.

Searchers are being aided in wooded areas by state forest rangers.

District Attorney Stephen Cornwell of all Broome County, N.Y., declined to name the defendant but said at a news conference that he had been students at Binghamton, that is part of the State University of NY process.

Conrad Taylor, 21, a December Binghamton University graduate who also serves on the Binghamton City Council, described this tragedy as heartbreaking - a disgusting crime. "I'm absolutely sure we'll do that again".

This is the second student to be murdered this school year at Binghamton University. A 22-year-old nursing student named Haley Anderson was killed in her off-campus home in March. In Dec. 2009, Richard T. Antoun, an emeritus professor of anthropology, was stabbed to death on campus by a graduate student.
