Jimmy Kimmel mocks 'my pal' Sean Hannity over Trump lawyer bombshell

That Cohen's attorneys included Hannity's name on a list of clients presented in court "just shows that Michael was doing his due diligence and being totally thorough about anybody that he might have had attorney-client privilege with", Hannity told listeners.

At one point, the judge made clear that for Cohen's claim to proceed, he would have to reveal the names of all the clients he has worked with since the 2016 election.

The hearing came after an Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on Mr Cohen a week ago, in which documents relating to a clandestine payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels were reportedly seized.

Cohen, a former Trump Organization lawyer, arranged a 130,000-dollar payment shortly before the 2016 election to porn star Stormy Daniels for her silence about a 2006 liaison with the NY real estate tycoon, who denies any sexual relationship with her.

Over on the Daily Show, Trevor Noah noted that it wasn't a "good look" for Hannity to be one of Cohen's clients. Now, I told you and I've told anyone who will listen: "Mueller's team is corrupt, starting with him, and it has been from the beginning".

Wood wouldn't accept that.

"I understand he doesn't want his name out there, but that's not enough under the law", she said, after hearing legal arguments from Robert Balin, a lawyer for five news organizations including The Associated Press.

Despite Hannity telling Dershowitz he would discuss the matter later, the legal expert refused to let it drop, telling the host: "You are in a tough position". His lawyers revealed Hannity's connection to their client in federal court Monday.

During the show, Mr. Hannity described the F.B.I. raid, adding, "Now, what that means is Mueller's witch-hunt investigation is now a runaway train that is clearly careening off the tracks". "It had to do with real estate and nothing political", he said.

Last week's raids came after a "months-long" investigation of possible crimes related largely to Cohen's business dealings, rather than his work as a lawyer, prosecutors have said.

"You know, this is a fast-moving story, so I am going to be doing a lot more reporting but what I have heard so far is that at some point a year ago Sean Hannity hired Michael Cohen to help defend him against left-wing groups that were calling for boycotts in the wake of Bill O'Reilly's ouster from Fox News", Sherman told host Ali Velshi. Five years later, she presided over the Cohen hearing in which Hannity was named as his client.

Hannity addressed the controversy at the close of his show Monday night.

"But he said he never retained Cohen "in any traditional sense", never paid him and never got billed for a legal fee". What do you think about this?

He claimed his questions were mostly about real estate, and never involved any matter between him and a third party. And to be absolutely clear: "They never involved any matter, any-sorry to disappoint so many-matter between me or third parties, or third groups, at all".

Michael Cohen is under criminal investigation for personal business dealings and was ordered to appear in federal court Monday in NY to help answer questions about his law practice.

U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood denied the motion, instead ordering that the materials be put in a searchable database so that a team of prosecutors called a "taint team" can quickly review them to determine which, if any, are privileged or unrelated to the probe. They argued that the evidence should be protected by attorney-client privilege.

Failing that, they want the court to appoint an independent official known as a special master, a role typically filled by a lawyer, to go through the records and decide what prosecutors can see. Attorneys for Trump and Cohen opposed that plan.

But she also said that to help ensure fairness and the perception of fairness, "a special master might have some role here". She asked each party to come up with four names of individuals to be considered for such a role.

She ordered prosecutors to give Cohen's lawyers a copy of the seized materials before the next hearing.

"Why, when Sean was on the air strongly an advocate for President Trump, was he not saying, 'Hey, I've got a relationship with the lawyer, '" Williams said.

But even after Cohen's office and home were raided by the FBI, Hannity, who already had a professional relationship with the attorney, never disclosed that fact while reporting on the raid.
