Fellow GOP Governor Calls on Missouri's to Resign Over Scandal

Experts say that's far from certain, especially after new and even more troubling allegations emerged this week. They include accusations of unwanted sexual aggression. The woman involved with Greitens never sought charges.

Republican Rob Schaaf of St. Joseph, an outspoken critic of the governor, has taken a different tact to try and nudge Greitens from his seat.

Missouri Republican Gov. Eric Greitens has announced two new appointments to the state Ethics Commission.

Republican House Speaker Todd Richardson of Poplar Bluff praised the bipartisan House committee, which is made up of five Republicans and two Democrats.

The commission normally has six members, but has been operating with just three.

Greitens has seized on the dream portion of the woman's statement, telling media that the case is "a political witch hunt now based on the testimony of somebody who said under oath that they may be remembering this through a dream".

The commission's next meeting is April 25.

Corlew does not believe that the governor's character is befitting the state's top public office. Trump and Greitens are both Republicans. They asserted that the St. Louis prosecutors' office had engaged in misconduct and potential perjury by initially saying that a video recorder had malfunctioned during a March interview of the woman.

Greitens said in a statement Wednesday night: "This was an entirely consensual relationship, and any allegation of violence or sexual assault is false".

Sanders said she didn't have an official response but says the allegations are something the White House is taking very seriously. Burlison says he will provide advance notice of any ruling and will make it in open court.

Attorneys for embattled Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens claimed Thursday that the prosecutor in his felony invasion-of-privacy trial concealed evidence until after the release of a legislative committee report that led to calls for the Republican to step down.

Gardner said in a court filing later Thursday that she supplied the video once her office determined it could be accessed.

Hawley's office has been investigating allegations that resources at Greitens's former veterans charity were improperly used for his campaign.

The report contained excerpts of sworn testimony from the woman at the center of the scandal, a hair stylist referred to only as "Witness 1", describing in lurid detail a tumultuous, months-long affair punctuated by instances of physical abuse, jealous rage and manipulative behavior by Greitens.

Hawley's campaign spokeswoman has said McCaskill is pushing false information about his record.

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Gina Walsh of Bellefontaine Neighbors wants much quicker action than calling a special session, which would take place after the current session adjourns in mid-May. The governor faces mounting calls for his resignation following allegations that he slapped, grabbed and shoved a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair in 2015, before his election. President Donald Trump is millstone enough.

But reaction from his fellow Republicans indicates Greitens may have a more hard time than Trump surviving politically.

A former Navy SEAL and Rhodes Scholar, he was elected in November 2016 after running as a conservative outsider.

The House special committee was formed February 27 to investigate allegations levied against Mr. Greitens by the woman, who said he warned her not to discuss their March 2015 encounter or he would post the photos and "then everyone will know what a little whore you are".

According to the House report, the woman recounted their first liaison as a menacing and coerced sexual encounter in which he bound her hands, blindfolded her and ripped off her clothes without her consent before snapping a photo of her and threatening to disseminate the image if their affair became public.
