Andre Ingram: 'Atmosphere was electric' in long-awaited National Basketball Association debut

After 10 seasons in the NBA's minor league, 32-year old guard Andre Ingram finally made his National Basketball Association debut last night with the Los Angeles Lakers and it wasn't long before he was hearing "MVP" chants from the Staples Center crowd. Rockets star Chris Paul made his way over to Ingram as he entered the floor in the first quarter to congratulate him.

Ingram, who has a degree in physics from American University, has played 384 career games in the development league, averaging 10.2 points in 25.6 minutes per game while making a record 713 shots from deep.

He even nailed his first shot from outside the arc.

The man himself had a huge smile on his face after the game, as he told ESPN: "It was excellent. All the players, all the coaches".

"From the team warm-ups, the atmosphere was electric". "You could actually really feel one factor in there. MVP chants, that's just insane", Ingram told reporters. He sunk each of his three free throw attempts, four out of five three-point attempts and six out of eight field goal attempts, all at the ripe age of 32.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, his 19 points were the most by a Laker in his first career game since Nick Van Exel's 23 in 1993. But that didn't stop Ingram, watched by his wife and kids, enjoying the experience.

The Lakers lost 105-99 to the Rockets which made Ingram's introduction to the league bittersweet.

The 32-year-old has also scored the fifth-most points in league history (3,901) and won the 3-Point Contest in 2010 and 2016.

"I wondered why those two big guys were back there", Ingram laughed after the surprise announcement as Lakers president Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka walked into the room. "I enjoyed my time in the league and all of my teammates, and I heard from every one of them".
