Trump vows 'major decisions' on Syria after alleged toxic attack

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting Monday at the White House, Trump vowed he would have a response within the next two days.

USA officials are assessing whether Syrian President Bashar Assad's government was behind Saturday's suspected chemical weapons attack on rebel-held Douma, east of Damascus.

"But we can't let atrocities like we all witnessed. we can't let that happen in our world. especially when we're able to because of the power of the United States, the power of our country, we're able to stop it". He said: "We have a lot of options militarily, and we'll be letting you know pretty soon".

US President Donald Trump charged that Syria's close allies, Russian Federation and Iran, were also responsible, while Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis noted that Russian Federation had earlier assumed the role as "guarantor" of the removal of all of Syria's chemical weapons.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said it was investigating the Douma attack allegations, but that so far only a "preliminary analysis" had taken place.

And, as Congress does, it can debate our objectives in this new war, and how many men, casualties and years will be required to defeat the coalition of Syria, Russia, Hezbollah, Iran, and the allied Shiite militias from the Near East.

If the U.S. takes military action against Syria under false pretenses, it will lead to "grave repercussions", the envoy said.

Syria has blamed Israel for a missile attack on a central air base early Monday that reportedly killed 14 people, including three Iranians.

Mr Trump had warned of a "big price to pay" following the reports of a poison gas attack on the Syrian town of Douma which killed dozens of people, including children. Yevgeny Serberennikov, from the defense committee at the Federation Council, told the RIA Novosti news agency that Russia is eager for the OPCW to "finally start carrying out the functions it was created for". He also wants a long-term plan to topple the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The punitive raid did not draw U.S. forces any deeper into Syria's civil war, nor did it dissuade Syria or its Russian and Iranian backers from pursuing their campaign against rebel groups.

Iran is one of Assad's strongest backers and has sent thousands of troops and allied militiamen to support his forces.

Syria's government has denied using chemical weapons throughout the Syrian conflict, which began in 2011.

Previously, Israel has notified Russian Federation of its actions in real time, but this time, a spokesman for Putin said there was no contact between Israel and Russian Federation before or during the overnight airstrike in Syria.

The US State Department said Mr Johnson and his Washington counterpart had discussed "potential further steps the US and United Kingdom governments might take in coordination with other partners".

Syrian state media and Russian Foreign Ministry did not take responsibility for Saturday's attacks in Douma. We should work with the French.

"Either way, the United States will respond", she warned.

Following the alleged attack, Syria and Russian Federation reached an evacuation deal with the Jaish al-Islam rebels, who up until now have been holding Douma.

"We are making a decision as to what we do with respect to the terrible attack that was made near Damascus, and it will be met forcefully, and when I'm not saying because I don't like to talk about timing".

Syria says five of the eight missiles were shot down, with three hitting part of the base, and initially said it suspected the USA of firing the missiles.
