Greensboro's John Isner beats Juan Martin Del Potro, reaches Miami Open final

John Isner produced a blistering Miami Open semifinal display against crowd favorite Juan Martin Del Potro to win 6-1, 7-6 (7/2) and snap the former US Open champion's 15-match winning streak.

At Indian Wells, Del Potro did not face a break point in ousting Raonic in just 65 minutes.

The American, who has never won at Miami, will face the victor of the other semi-final between German fourth seed Alexander Zverev and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in Sunday's final. He was 0-3 in ATP Masters 1000 finals before Sunday.

John Isner celebrates after defeating Juan Martin del Potro.

Isner may not be the best overall player without a Masters title, but he has performed better in these events than nearly any other player who has not captured a title.

Now riding a 15-match unbeaten run, Del Potro, ranked sixth in the world, seems to finally be playing at the level most expected of him after being dogged by injury problems previous years. "In Indian Wells, it kept me in match mode". The American has gone close on three occasions, losing to Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray in his three Masters finals, but he will never have a better opportunity to win such a high profile event, as he takes on his first non-elite opponent in a Masters final, this time in the shape of Alexander Zverev. "Very happy it's all sort of coming together right now", Isner said. I was much fresher than him, and I think that played a big role today. I know better than anyone what it's costing me, all the days there is something new but I don't want to stop.

"Things are just clicking". To be fair, Del Potro has played a lot of tennis in the past month - 16 matches and 38 sets, to be exact.

Finally, in-form Hyeon Chung beat Joao Sousa 6-4 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals and will take on John Isner. He's played so many matches and I was a little bit fortunate to get a del Potro who was very low on fuel. He made 83 percent of his first serves in the final set. But both now have the chance to lift a Masters 1000 title, with Zverev aiming for his third and Isner his first. The final, against Pablo Carreno Busta or Alexander Zverev, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday (ESPN2).

Fourth seed Zverev survived five break points in the opening set, before winning a tense tie break 7-4. "Not many players can return his serves".

"It's going to be a completely different match (than the one today), said Zverev about the final".
