Unemployment Drops Again in February

"Despite the seasonal uptick, the job market remains healthy amid economic improvement". Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate continues to be below the national rate, which was unchanged again in February at 4.1 percent.

Overall employment in the state increased by 7,400 to 3,068,200, according to place of residence survey data.

Labor force and unemployment data is available at maine.gov/labor/cwri/laus1.html. February's rate represents 80,685 unemployed persons, compared to 80,807 in January and 115,397 in February 2017.

Walker made the state's high unemployment rate a central point of his first campaign in 2010, promising then to create 250,000 private-sector jobs by the end of his first term. During this same timeframe, nine supersectors in the commonwealth added jobs. Other areas with healthy growth included construction, with an increase of 2,900 jobs, government, with an increase of 2,600 jobs, and manufacturing, with an increase of 600 jobs.

Virginia's nonfarm payroll employment is 36,300 jobs higher when compared to February of 2017.

"The fact that we are able to maintain our record low unemployment rate for yet another month shows that we are, in fact, keeping Alabamians working", said Governor Ivey.

The February job numbers mark a slowdown from an upwardly revised gain of 48,900 in January.

The report included the unadjusted unemployment rates of various cities and localities in the county.

Monthly workforce estimates are cooperatively produced and released by the Maine Department of Labor, Center for Workforce Research and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This measures the share of the population that is neither employed nor actively seeking work. The expansion pushed Virginia's total labor force to 4.3 million, a new record.
