Metro Detroit Weather: Rounds of snow this weekend

It's extremely important that you remain cautious as we head into the weekend, as winter weather once again sets its sights on Mid-Missouri.

The weather service said there's a 90 percent chance for more snow Friday night and then 70 percent for Saturday and Saturday night and 60 percent for Sunday.

The Kansas City metropolitan area could experience freezing drizzle mixed with snow, the weather service said, with totals between a trace and 1 inch. By Sunday morning the system will be moving out, but we still expect temperatures to be below freezing during a good portion of the day, so pretty chilly for the Fort Smith Marathon.

Angola is the only county seat in the four-county area with consistent weather data dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s that enables the National Weather Service to provide historical context.

Temperatures will reach into the mid-20s Friday and into the lower 30s over the weekend, the weather service said.

"Snow will come to an end by midnight, with snowfall accumulations expected to range from a trace to 3" in the Denver metro area and eastern plains.

Widespread light snow continues in counties along and north of Interstate-80. It will be below freezing overnight and throughout the day Sunday.

In Naperville, Illinois, a hospital spokesman says a man in his 60s suffered a fatal heart attack Friday morning while shoveling snow. At 5 inches, Fort Wayne has half the snow depth of Angola. The risk for freezing rain and drizzle will be greatest Saturday night into Sunday morning. North wind 6 to 9 miles per hour.

SUNDAY: The wintry pattern does not change with more snow likely and another 2"-4 " of accumulation possible. Cloudy, with a high near 35.

Saturday's high is expected to reach 30 with a low of 21.
