Government shutdown: SpaceX can't test fire Falcon Heavy rocket

There's a good chance, according to SpaceNews, that the Falcon Heavy will take off during a scheduled launch window at 1:30 p.m. on February 6, a Tuesday.

"Aiming for the first flight of Falcon Heavy on Feb 6 from Apollo launchpad 39A at Cape Kennedy".

"Easy viewing from the public causeway".

As proof of the Falcon Heavy's capabilities, and in reverence to Elon Musk's obsession with conquering space travel, the rocket's first mission will involve transporting a midnight cherry Tesla Roadster into space, bound for an orbit around the distant planet of Mars.

In December, the rocket went vertical at the launch pad for the first time, and over the course of the following weeks SpaceX conducted multiple fueling tests known as wet dress rehearsals, where the rocket was filled with propellant and all systems were checked short of engine ignition.

If you have space-obsessed friends, you might have heard the name "Falcon Heavy" used a lot lately.

The Falcon Heavy is essentially three smaller Falcon 9 rockets fastened together.

The largest rocket ever to be constructed and launched since the Saturn V which debuted in 1967, the Falcon Heavy is also noteworthy as it will allow commercial companies to send far larger payloads up into the stars.

The 70m-tall Falcon Heavy is created to put up to a maximum of 64 tonnes in low-Earth orbit, although in reality it will be rare that the vehicle lofts this much mass.

If you're in the Cape Canaveral area, locals say Parrish Park or Space View Park in Titusville, Florida offer a great view of the Falcon Heavy launch site. Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and restores the possibility of flying missions with crew to the Moon or Mars.

SpaceX has finally set the date for the launch of its eagerly awaited Falcon Heavy rocket.

The Falcon Heavy has been in the works for several years now and has seen more than a few delays. "I love the thought of a auto drifting apparently endlessly through space and perhaps being discovered by an alien race millions of years in the future", Musk explained in a tweet last month.

After liftoff, the center core engines will throttle down, allowing the side cores to separate before the center core engine throttles back up to full thrust.

According to experts, 92% of the thrust would be enough for the first launch.

SpaceX is taking its sweet time preparing for launch. After blasting off from NASA's historic Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center, all three will attempt vertical landings, two on land and one on a floating offshore platform.
