Palestinian killed in gun battle with Israeli army

Palestinian factions have reiterated their demand for an end to security coordination between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israeli occupation forces, after the Israeli army attacked a house in Jenin and murdered a young man on Thursday.

Israeli forces also detained two Palestinians from the Hebron district in the southern West Bank.

Hours later, however, the Palestinian health ministry said it had been mistaken, and that a different man with a similar name had been killed.

According to Wafa, the official Palestinian news agency, Jarrar used an automatic weapon to fire at the Israeli soldiers.

Israeli forces declared Jenin a closed military zone.

The parents of fallen IDF soldier Hadar Goldin are demanding that the Israeli government keep the body of the terrorist who was eliminated in Jenin earlier this week until the Gaza-based terrorist group returns the remains of the soldiers in its possession.

Jarrar's house was demolished, as was an adjacent house belonging to another member of his family.

Tensions in the region have risen since US President Donald Trump's announcement on Dec 6 recognising disputed Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and at least 18 Palestinians and one Israeli have been killed since.

Eighteen Palestinians have been killed since Trump's declaration, a lot of them in clashes with Israeli forces.

It was also met with widespread worldwide condemnation, including by many USA allies.

Israeli forces killed a Palestinian gunman and captured another in a clash in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, saying they were part of an Islamist Hamas cell responsible for an ambush in which a Jewish settler was shot dead.

Hamas initial comment pledged to move on with the "resistance" in which Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri affirmed that Jenin cell wasn't the first and won't be the last.
