Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan dies at age 46

Tributes are pouring in after news broke this morning that lead singer of The Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan, has died at age 46.

RTE quoted O'Riordan's publicist as saying that she had died while in London for a short recording session.

Dolores O'Riordan, lead vocalist of The Cranberries, has passed away today (15 January).

"She derived great happiness from her kids who she absolutely doted on, and wanted to make sure had as normal a childhood as possible growing up". On Boxing Day, she posted on social media that she was headed to Ontario to spend time with her family.

During that period they sold 40 million albums, while Zombie, an aggressively anti-war epic inspired by the IRA's Warrington bomb in 1993, went number one in five countries.

The singer led the Limerick, Ireland, band to worldwide success in the 1990s with hit singles like "Zombie" and "Linger". It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. "Thoughts are with her family and friends".

She would struggle with the pressures of fame over the years but in more recent years, Dolores seemed to be getting her life and career back on track.
