Sumpter Twp. couple wanted for murder of girl, 4, arrested in Georgia

A manhunt is underway for a MI woman and her boyfriend charged in the death of the woman's 4-year-old daughter, who suffered injuries that included severe burns on her arms and legs.

According to WXYZ-TV in Detroit, U.S. Marshals are offering up to $5,000 for anyone with information that leads to the direct arrest of Candice R. Diaz, 24, and Brad E. Fields, 28. Police say they are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with MI plates DTR1854.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office on January 3 ruled Gabrielle's death a homicide.

Sumpter Township police officials said last week officers were called to a residence on Greenmeadow Drive in the Rawsonville Woods Mobile Home Community on Rawsonville Road near Willow Road to respond to reports of an unresponsive 4-year-old girl.

Gabrielle had obvious severe burns about her extremities and was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A manhunt is underway for Diaz and Fields, and they are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier bearing MI license plate DTR 1854, pictured below. Diaz faces murder, child abuse and torture charges.

Fields allegedly faked a gunshot wound on May 25, 2016 in an incident where he was accused of assaulting Diaz and possibly shooting her dog, police said.

Brad Fields, 28, faces murder, child abuse and torture charges in the death of Gabrielle Barrett on January 1, 2018. Fields fled the scene, but was later picked up on domestic violence charges.

Police also uncovered drug paraphernalia and a cache of weaponry. His first time there was Sunday night, for a candlelight vigil. She pleaded guilty to weapons charges and received probation.
