Red Cross issues urgent call for blood donations following severe winter weather

The American Red Cross is asking people in Central Washington to donate blood in response to potential shortages in the eastern United States.

2, the blood center is only projected to receive 53 percent of its normal weekly donations in the coming week. "The Red Cross is doing everything we can to ensure blood products are available for hospital patients during these hard winter months, but we need help from our regular donors - as well as those who are willing to donate for the first time - to give as soon as possible".

Platelets are primarily used in the treatment of patients undergoing chemotherapy. "We have been doing this for decades at this sight and we are trying to respond to this need by allowing our employees to come up here at a convenient opportunity to donate blood". RapidPass can now be completed on mobile devices and through the Blood Donor App.

Over 40 hospitals and medical facilities in a 10-county area depend on the supply of blood provided by We Are Blood.

Eligible donors must be in good health, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 115 pounds. By giving platelets regularly, donors can help patients kick cancer and recover from other life-threatening illnesses and injuries. "So this blood drive here at Chemours has been so timely".
