Pennsylvania Woman 'Shocked' After Receiving $284 Billion Electric Bill

"I can't recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars", said Penelec spokesman Mark Durbin.

A Pennsylvania woman was stunned to find she owed her electric company, Penelec, $284 billion after checking her bill online. The 58-year-old suspected that her family had put up their Christmas lights wrong.

After a call from Horomanki's son, Penelec fixed the statement to show that the actual balance was $284.46, the paper reported.

Horomanski first thought her holiday decorations were responsible for all the extra zeroes.

The silver lining was that the bill stated she didn't have to pay the full amount of $284,460,000,000 until November 2018 - only a $28,156 minimum payment was due for December.

After speaking with her son, who promptly contacted the utility company, she learned that the entire episode had thankfully been nothing more than a freakish error. "We appreciate the customer's willingness to reach out to us about the mistake", Durbin told the newspaper. Horomanski has got over her scare now and can even make jokes about the incident.

Horomanski's experience with the massive bill gave her an idea for a unique Christmas present. She jokingly told her son that she wanted a heart monitor for Christmas after seeing this year's bill.

In another case a Florida man opened up a bill for $12,000 from his electric company.
