Putin thanked Trump for intelligence that prevented terror attack

A statement on the Kremlin's website says President Vladimir Putin called U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday to thank him for the information.

The Kremlin said the Central Intelligence Agency provided Russia with key information about a plot to bomb Kazan Cathedral and other places in St. Petersburg, allowing Russian police to arrest a group of suspects in raids on Friday.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed that the call from Putin to Trump took place and said a readout would be provided to the press shortly.

Putin told Trump that the information provided by the CIA allowed Russian law enforcement agencies to track down and detain a group of suspects that was planning to bomb the Kazan Cathedral and other crowded parts of Russia's second-largest city. The cell planned to target the cathedral and other public places in Russia's second city.

The Federal Security Service, or FSB, announced Friday that seven suspected followers of the Islamic State group had been arrested for allegedly planning to carry out terror attacks in St. Petersburg this weekend.

Russian Federation has suffered several attacks this year, including a bombing on the Saint Petersburg metro in April that left 14 people dead.

"Vladimir Putin assured Donald Trump that the Russian intelligence services upon receipt of information relating to terrorist threats against the U.S. and its citizens, will immediately transmit to its American colleagues in partner channels", the statement added.

The pioneers' relationship is muddled by continuous examinations concerning the Trump crusade's connections to Moscow.

Mr Putin has said he and President Trump are on first name terms, which is "how relations should be between people like us".

Returning militants from Syria pose a real threat to Russian Federation, the head of the FSB was quoted as saying on Tuesday. "No Russian lives were lost and the terrorist attackers were caught and are now incarcerated".
