Facebook will now let you temporarily mute a friend's posts

Snooze allows you to hide the posts from a facebook friend, page or group for 30 days at a time.

When you set someone to snooze, you won't see their posts appear in your News Feed and you also won't get notifications about their activity - a feature that's particularly handy when it comes to groups.

The snooze feature is based on research that people are more happy using social media when they interact with people they like, versus just browsing the news feed, which some research says can be depressing. The mute will last for 30 days, giving you a break from certain political rants, troublesome news items or overly zealous commentary.

They present both positive and negative research on social media and write about what Facebook is doing to combat the negatives and prioritize the positives. Just because a person or a page or group sent one or two annoying posts doesn't mean they are totally going to annoy you forever, therefore totally unfollowing/unfriending them in this case is the permanent decision (sorta) that you shouldn't be making...yet.

Facebook is one of those places where sometimes we feel bad for unfriending people, even if their posts annoy us.

Facebook recently pledged $1 million toward research "to better understand the relationship between media technologies, youth development and well-being". Facebook has announced some changes and the most important of them is probably the new "Snooze" button. A new feature being rolled out by Facebook could help with that.
