Busy travel weekend calls for more troopers

Thanksgiving is ordinarily one of the most hectic travel periods of the year, and state troopers are urging motorists to remain safety-minded as they travel throughout the state.

Highway patrol troopers are out in full force as the Thanksgiving travel rush gets underway. Troopers will be on the look out for drivers not wearing seatbelts, speeders, impaired drivers and people who text and drive.

The data does not suggest you're not at risk of a crash if you take the Turnpike, generally your chances of becoming a victim of a crash depends on what time you get on the road.

Highway Patrol investigated 1,923 collisions during the holiday past year, the release said.

The MEP begins at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, and continues through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26.

Wednesday night, many motorists will be hitting the road to their destination to spend Thanksgiving with family.
