OH added 4300 jobs in October as unemployment rate fell to 5.1%

The department said in a report released Friday that the figure was one-tenth of a percentage point lower than the September rate of 2.8 percent.

The jobless rate fell to 4.8% last month from 5.1% in September. Only Hawaii, at 2.2 percent, and North Dakota, at 2.5 percent, had lower rates.

The seasonally adjusted number plunged three-tenths of a point to 2.2 percent in October, according to the DLIR.

Both the state and local unemployment rates in October remained well below the national rate, which was 4.1 percent, a 17-year low.

Also, for the first time in years, Louisiana's unemployment rate doesn't rank among the 10 worst states.

The U.S. unemployment rate for the month stood at 4.1 percent. New Hampshire had the lowest unemployment rate in New England at 2.7 percent, followed by 2.9 percent in Vermont, then ME, followed by 3.7 percent in MA, 4.2 percent in Rhode Island and 4.5 percent in CT. Private sector jobs decreased by 1,700 from the previous month.

Job gains were reported in sectors including educational and health services, leisure and hospitality, financial activities, professional and business services, other services, and trade, transportation and utilities.
