Jerry Jones requests special meeting of owners

"With due respect, we urge Mr. Jones to drop his misguided litigation threats and media campaign to undermine the Committee's mandate", said the letter sent from National Football League attorney Brad Karp to Boies, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post.

Jones has been claiming that the league's compensation committee, chaired by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, has been misleading about the contract negotiation process for Goodell's extension.

According to a report from Don Van Natta, Jr. and Seth Wickersham of ESPN, the unknown owner reached out to Silver to gauge whether or not he'd have interest in taking over for Goodell.

The letter accuses Jones of sabotaging the negotiations in the latest round of the escalating feud between Jones and Goodell. The League's ownership has been and will continue to be fully apprised of the Committee's work, as the Committee Chairman reaffirmed on Monday. In a counterproposal, Goodell's lawyer reportedly asked for $49.05 million per year. Owen Wilson will make a fine Goodell, but we're still casting Jones.

"Adhering to the protocol of giving owners a 48-hour heads-up before a major disciplinary issue involving their team is announced, Goodell and Pash informed Jones that after a 13-month domestic violence inquiry, the Dallas Cowboys' star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, would face punishment - a six-game suspension", writes the tandem of ESPN reporters.

Jones is insisting the percolating feud about Elliott isn't part of his threat to sue the NFL.

"I don't know where this is coming from about stripping him of his franchise", the owner said Thursday, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the threat of litigation by Jones. Now, per the Journal, the NFL has sent a letter to Jones's attorney calling his behavior "detrimental to the league's best interests". He has owned the Cowboys since 1989.
