The top Republican in the U.S. Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said Monday that Alabama Republican Roy Moore should end his Senate candidacy in the wake of allegations he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl four decades ago when he was a 32-year-old local prosecutor. The woman, Beverly Young Nelson, said at a press conference that Moore sexually assaulted her when she was 15 and 16.
In tears, Nelson said in NY that when she was 16, Moore offered her a ride home from the restaurant where she worked.
"I tried fighting him off and yelling", she tearfully recalled, but "instead of stopping, he began squeezing my neck and attempting to force my head into his crotch".
"I though that he was going to rape me".
Nelson, who says she voted for President Trump, said she isn't trying to make a political point but was inspired to come forward by the other women who have recently accused Moore of lechery. "I was scared. I felt that if I told anyone Mr. Moore would do something to me or my family", she said.
"I was shocked that [the Washington Post] would come up with something so outrageous", said Kayla Moore in an interview with alt-right site Breitbart News. I was twisting and struggling and begging him to stop.
"I tried to open my auto door to leave, but he reached over and he locked it so I could not get out".
Speaking at a press conference in Louisville about tax reform, McConnell was asked if he believed Moore's accusers.

A reporter defending Roy Moore appeared to compare the sexual misconduct allegations against the GOP Senate candidate to stealing a lawnmower.
Mr. McConnell also said that encouraging a write-in candidate to run in the December 12 special election is "an option we're looking at". Luther Strange, the loser to Moore in a party primary, he said, "We'll see". But more than being completely false and untrue, they're very hurtful to me personally.
A Democratic win in Alabama would be a blow to Trump's agenda and shift the political outlook for next year's midterm elections, giving Democrats a shot at gaining the three seats they need to recapture control of the U.S. Senate.
Attorney Gloria Allred and Nelson called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Moore and hold a hearing on the allegations against him within the next weeks. Moore and Jones face a December 12 special election to replace odd, who was appointed to replace Jeff Sessions when Sessions was named US attorney general.
Even if Moore were to step aside, his name would likely remain on the ballot.
