Google's Files Go App Released In A Closed-Beta Program

At the time of this writing, the app that you can now download from the Play Store is the same, unfinished version that we saw in the recent leak. It now has all the functionalities which various third-party skins once used to come with. This uses the Bluetooth connection on your Android device. Yes, you can get a little bit of that by going into Settings Storage Explore.

If you recall, Google accidentally posted an unfinished app on the Play Store, one called “Files Go”. Till then, here is our initial impressions of the app.

The good news is that the APK for Files Go is available, even though the app was quickly removed from Google Play Store. The main UI shows an overview of the storage situation on the phone.

Users can browse through all of your phone's content by downloads, received files, images, videos, audio, and documents. You can select individual items or everything and hit the delete button at the bottom to free up storage.

The app basically aims to create larger free space on your phone by deleting span and files that you don't need. On this app the Files tab is nothing more than a file management tab.

To share the files, the receiver also needs to install the app.

The company quietly announced the wider beta opening of Files Go this morning, via a tweet. The page notes that the unreleased app may be unstable.

Though early speculation was that Files Go was being aimed at emerging markets, we understand it's on track for a global launch, starting in December. It is free of cost, contains no ads or in-app purchases. I hope Google stands by this when the app is made official. It's a simple enough interface plus it's really slick and easy to use. It is light on your storage (3.7MB on PlayStore).

Files Go in its current state is available for devices running Android 5.0 and above.

Besides, the Files Go app lists all the apps that are unused on your device from the last four weeks. You can see your listing on Google Play. We havent tested this feature yet, so do let us know if it works.
