Koenigsegg sets new production vehicle speed record at 447 km/h

Just one month after shattering the Chiron's 0-400-0kmh record by 5 seconds, Koenigsegg have set the new world record for the fastest production vehicle, clocking a 277.9mph two-way average top speed in the Agera RS.

The Koenigsegg also managed to beat the former record-holding Hennessey Venom GT's run by more than 7mph. Towards the end of the second run, the Agera RS even surpasses 450 km/h - close to the speed of a small aircraft.

The previous record was 268 miles per hour, held by Bugatti which achieved the speed in 2010. The closure was set to be in place for two days but the Koenigsegg team broke the record early on the first day.

The video above shows that the Agera RS reaches 272mph (437.7kmh) on the first run and an impressive 284.3mph (457kmh) during the second. At the same time, I'm extremely jealous of the pure, unfiltered speed driver Niklas Lilja must have felt.

Before confirming that "it was over by lunch on day one", the brand responded to journalists on Twitter to confirm that it had completed the run using the "standard fitment" Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyres.

It turns out the Koenigsegg Agera RS is quite fast.

Guinness World Records, the arbiter of such things, defines a production auto as a vehicle in its original condition, with no modifications or adjustments other than those offered as factory options by the manufacturer. Powered by a bi-turbo 5.0-litre V8, the Agera RS develops 1360bhp of power and a whopping 1371Nm of torque and weighs a shade under 1300kg.

Racelogic uploaded a video of the successful world record attempt, taken by the VBOX HD2 inside the cockpit of the Koenigsegg Agera RS.
