Salt Lake City police Chief Mike Brown has since apologized and fired Payne. The police presence on campus has been increased. They did not say if he had any connection with the university.

Around 11 a.m., Salt Lake City police tweeted that the "mountain search for Austin Boutain has been completed" and that the suspect was "still outstanding".

Police said Mitchell Bradford Ingle, whose body was found Tuesday in his trailer home, may have been friendly with the Boutains but it wasn't clear how they met and how the older man was killed.

Guo, one of thousands of worldwide students at the University of Utah, came to the U.S.in 2012 and dreamed of owning his own consulting company.

A lockdown at the university, which has about 32,800 students, ended early Tuesday and school officials canceled classes for the day.

Rachel Tam of Pleasant Grove, Utah, said Tuesday that Guo was a member of the Mormon church and served as a missionary in Provo. About 8:15 p.m. Monday, his wife came to the university and said that her husband had assaulted her.
