Looking for a Halloween Playlist? NASA Shares Universe's Spooky Sounds

NASA mentioned on their website, "Soaring to the depths of our universe, gallant spacecraft roam the cosmos, snapping images of celestial wonders". In fact, the sound is obtained after it gets converted from the original radio emissions present in space, and the results are worthy of a creepy celebration. Sounds from Juno are included in NASA's Halloween playlist. NASA spacecraft also recorded the popping and crackling of being "pelted by dust particles and small rocks" while flying by a comet, the reverberating tones of crossing Jupiter's bow shock, the static fog of the atmosphere of Saturn's moon Titan, and more.

NASA scientists also use a process called data sonification to translate radio signals into sound.

The independent agency said it created the playlist to make listeners' "skin crawl" to keep with the spirit of Halloween. Therefore, it released a series of recordings of the scariest sounds which could be heard in space. The radio waves are closely related to the auroras near the poles of the planet.

From the eerie crackling sound of a comet encounter captured by the Stardust spacecraft to the rhythemic sound of plasma waves captured by the Van Allen Probes, some of the audio clips might as well have been sound effects from a horror movie. From howling planets to whistling helium and odd moons, this is how space Halloween sounds like.

Meanwhile, Saturn, which according to Nasa is "a source of intense radio emissions" appeared to produce a spooky version of Star Trek-like sound effects. The compressed signals vary in frequency and time, and feature rising and falling tones similar to Earth's radio emissions.

Sounds of a Comet Encounter: During its February 14, 2011, flyby of comet Tempel 1, an instrument on the protective shield on NASA's Stardust spacecraft was pelted by dust particles and small rocks, as can be heard in this audio track.
