Trump denies account of solider's widow over his condolence call

La David Johnson, who was killed earlier this month in Niger, has broken her silence after US President Donald Trump's condolence call to her sparked controversy. "I don't know anything", she said about how her husband died. And when he did on Tuesday, Rep. Frederica Wilson said tht the president was disrespectful during a phone call he made to Johnson's widow; Wilson was on the phone when Trump called and said that Sgt. Johnson "knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt".

The 51-year-old journalist, who had also mentioned at the beginning of his open letter that he'd also suffered very public criticism from Trump on camera and on Twitter, urged the president to imagine what it was like if Tiffany or Ivanka were in Mrs Johnson's shoes.

In the days that followed, both Trump and Kelly publicly attacked the congresswoman, with Trump tweeting that Wilson's recounting of the call was "a total lie" and Kelly incorrectly accusing Wilson of bragging about her role in securing funding for the Federal Bureau of Investigation office that was dedicated in 2015.

Myeshia Johnson told ABC's "Good Morning America" in an interview Monday she has nothing to say to the president.

Last week, Trump called the Gold Star widow while she was in a auto, and she asked that the conversation be put on a speaker phone. "I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt".

"What she said was 100% correct", Myeshia Johnson said.

Johnson, 25, was one of four U.S. Special Forces - or Green Berets - killed in Niger when they were attacked October 4 by militants tied to the Islamic State. Wilson was riding with Johnson's family to meet the body and heard the call on speakerphone. "Why couldn't I see my husband?"

"The timeline we have is the first indicator that the unit called for external support until an hour later", he said, explaining that it's unclear whether the soldiers felt they were able to handle the attack until then.

"They won't show me a finger, a hand". Trump tweeted that Wilson "fabricated" his statement and the fight escalated through the week.

When asked on GMA if she wanted to say anything to Trump, Myeshia Johnson said she has "nothing to say".

"They won't tell me anything. And that's what hurt me the most, because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country", she said.
