Sharif family moves SC seeking order to club NAB references

The Accountability Court adjourned the hearing in graft references filed against the Sharif family members till October 19 on Friday after the members of legal fraternity, mostly from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Lawyers Wing, entered the court and created a raucous situation.

As a result of the ruckus, Judge Bashir left the courtroom and later announced the postponement of the hearing till October 19.

Supporters shout slogans in support of ousted Pakistan's ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif outside an accountability court in Islamabad, Pakistan, Friday, Oct. 13, 2017.

"The PML-N has repeated its history of fighting with the court instead of fighting its case." he said, adding, that the ruling party had a history of attacking the courts.

"He (Sharif) has nominated a representative to appear before the court to face the indictment and deny the charges", he said.

Sharif again failed to appear before the judge as he was in London where he is busy looking after his ill wife Kulsoom.

Speaking to the media while leaving the court premises, she asked the Interior Ministry to do the needful so that anything like that doesn't happen in future.

"I don't know who created the problems for the lawyers".

Sharif's daughter Maryam, after appearing before the NAB court on Monday, said that she was not afraid of getting arrested. After the rejection of petition, it is highly likely that Sharif, Maryam and Safdar would be indicted tomorrow during the hearing, unless the court delays it.

Judge Bashir also approved the NAB plea to declare Sharif's sons, Hassan and Hussain, proclaimed offenders.

The petition, filed by advocate Muhammad Kassim Mir Jat on behalf of Sharif, requested the court to order the anti-corruption body to file one consolidated reference instead of three separate references, Dawn newspaper reported. She was accompanied by ministers, and senior PML-N leaders. The crucial case to decide the fate of a powerful political dynasty is now in its last time-bound stage in NAB's Accountability Court.
