Thousands mourn slain officer as Las Vegas probe goes on

In early August, Paddock booked a room at Chicago's 21-story Blackstone Hotel that overlooked the park where the Lollapalooza music festival was being held, a law enforcement official said Thursday.

"We can confirm that a reservation was made under the name Stephen Paddock, however authorities have not confirmed that this is the same person as the Las Vegas shooter".

An estimated 100,000 people attended each day of Lollapalooza, which ran from August 3 through 6.

A law enforcement official who was briefed on the investigation and spoke only on condition of anonymity said that while Paddock booked the room at the Blackstone Hotel there is no record of him staying there.

At least 58 were killed and hundreds more injured Sunday evening when Paddock, stationed on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers on a lot across the street from the hotel.

'We are aware of the media reports and have been in communication with our federal partners.

He requested specific suites at the Ogden and another unidentified hotel, but moved on when he discovered they were booked, an inside source told CBS on Wednesday.

An advertising feature that ran in the local papers before Life is attractive - attended by 45,000 per day this year - boasted that the Ogden was "at the center" of the festival.

U.S. media, citing multiple anonymous law enforcement sources, reported that searches of the Las Vegas gunman's communications and electronic equipment found that he had scouted locations in both Chicago and Boston. The reservation of Paddock was extended during the all four days of the festival - the event which drew the attention of hundreds of thousands of people including the daughters of Ex-President - Malia and Shasha. They observed the suspect down on the ground and also saw a second door that could not be accessed from their position.

Shortly after the Life is attractive festival ended, Paddock checked into a 32nd-story suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Officers quickly realized there was no one else in the rooms and announced over the radio that the suspect was down.

Monday: Investigators said that they are looking for the "roommate" of the shooter - Marilou Danley - and describe her as a person of interest.

Paddock sent Danley on a trip to her native Philippines before the attack, and she was unaware of his plans and devastated when she learned of the carnage while overseas, she said in a statement. She is wheeled off her flight at Los Angeles International Airport in a wheelchair. Police have yet to comment on why he scouted the locations in Boston and Chicago, but a federal official said that authorities are looking into the possibility that Paddock may have planned additional attacks, potentially including a vehicle bombing. "That's the one in this one, and we are not there yet", FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe said.
