Russia, US Allies Exchange Blame Over Deaths In Syria

While Washington has denied the accusations, the troops of the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF), a predominantly Kurdish militia backed by the U.S. military, have recently attacked positions of the Syrian Arab Army in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, to assert control over the oil- and gas-rich eastern part of Syria.

Iran's state TV is reporting that the country's elite Revolutionary Guard has targeted bases belonging to the Islamic State group in eastern Syria with drone strikes.

According to recent data from the Russian Defense Ministry, some 87 percent of Syria is now free of Islamic State terrorists.

Ryabkov and Colonel Ryan Dillon, a spokesman for the US coalition, said military-to-military communications were continuing.

Russian military road service specialists have built a bridge across the Euphrates river a few kilometers from Deir ez-Zor in northeastern Syria to transport military hardware and personnel to the eastern bank, Vladimir Burovtsev, the chief of the road service at the Russian Defense Ministry, said Tuesday.

Nauert denied that and called the Russian accusations "untrue and unhelpful", but said the United States would continue de-confliction efforts aimed at avoiding deadly incidents.

The United States made similar accusations against Moscow last week, asserting that Russian forces say they are targeting IS fighters, but are in fact targeting USA -backed forces.

The Syrian Democratic Forces said a Russian airstrike killed one of its fighters and wounded two others in the Conoco gas field, in Deir el-Zour province.

The Russian military said that the militants' offensive was meant to derail the successful operation of the government forces East of Deir Ezzur.

This is the second time that the SDF has accused Russian warplanes of striking its forces in Deir Ezzor, where Moscow is backing pro-government forces in their separate campaign against militants in the area.

Daesh terrorists gained control over Deir ez-Zor's gas and oil fields in April 2014.
