Syria truce area hit with airstrikes

Russian air strikes on northwest Syria's mainly extremist-controlled province of Idlib on Monday killed at least 37 civilians including 12 children, a Britain-based monitor said.

A Russian lieutenant general died in Deir Ez Zor in Syria in a munitions shootout by Islamic state militants, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

On Sept. 16, the group said six of its fighters were wounded in airstrikes by regime and Russian warplanes in the Al-Sinaaiya area around seven kilometers (4 miles) from the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

USA -backed forces in eastern Syria say Russian Federation bombed their positions on Monday in a major natural gas field they recently captured from Islamic State militants.

The United States has made similar accusations against Moscow, asserting that Russian forces say they are targeting IS fighters, but are in fact targeting US -backed forces.

The ministry said that indicated the U.S. forces "feel absolutely safe" in close proximity to Isis.

She said Syrian government forces carried out additional bombardment of SDF positions after the initial Russian bombing.

Russian Federation had warned the United States that it would retaliate immediately if Syrian government forces came under fire from the US -backed Kurdish-led militia.

A USA spokesman told Military.com that commanders met in an undisclosed location to make sure "we don't fire upon one another" when battling the Islamic State terrorist group.

"Despite that the US strongholds being located in the ISIS areas, no screening patrol has been organized at them".

The convergence of the two rival offensives has increased tensions in Deir al-Zor.

With the highway between Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra back under government control, Russian and Syrian humanitarian aid has finally been able to flow through to the formerly besieged inhabitants.

The Conoco field is named for the American company that discovered the gas reserves and built a processing plant there. It says two people were wounded Sunday.

"We will not stand by with our arms crossed and we will use our legitimate right to self-defence", it said.
