Meteorologist Calms Fears of Jose's "Loop"

The storm is now 655 miles northwest of Puerto Rico moving east at 6 mph, and is expected to loop to the southeast and southwest before it heads northwest by Friday.

A local meteorologist has sought to allay the fears of residents of a possible "double hit" after worldwide experts revealed that Hurricane Jose is expected to make a loop that will affect parts of the Caribbean.

It headed out to sea causing little additional damage, and was recently downgraded from a category four hurricane.

The Washington Post reports forecast models are having a hard time figuring out what the state of the atmosphere will be like beyond five days.

Social media hype is already beginning about Hurricane Jose's potential threat to the United States' East Coast in less than two weeks.

"By days 4 and 5, Jose should track toward the west-northwest with a bit faster forward motion as the aforementioned mid-level high strengthens to the northeast of Jose".

"The three-day cone still has it to the east of us moving parallel". There is generally not a dominant weather feature that is steering the storm, so model forecasts can vary widely between each other and from run to run. But forecasters warn that long-term forecasts are often off by hundreds of miles. This is a common path for many tropical systems.

Hurricane-force winds extend up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 140 miles. The loop back toward the coast comes after Jose is expected to travel southwest - essentially backwards - and then move closer to shore.

That means Hurricane Irma's ultimate path and eventual decay could play an important role in determining where Jose ends up.

AccuWeather forecaster Dave Samuel added Hurricane Jose is something to watch, but not "worth any panic". It will likely dissipate from Tuesday evening, the National Hurricane Center said.
