Get ready, MN: The iPhone 8 to be announced September 12

Instead of a home button, it is believed users will perform actions using on-screen gesture controls involving a sort of dock of icons.

Support for an iPhone-specific Apple Pencil, an extra-large screen, as well as other interesting features, could make such a device well worthy of a premium price tag, though.

Apple's iPhone 8 unveiling could be just a couple of weeks away, and now Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has shared all the details he's hearing about the next handset. Apple is expected to provide more details about its features and release date at the September 12 product launch event.

The iPhone 8 is also supposed to have a software update, iOS 11 (as we were told at the Worldwide Developers Conference back in June). iOS 11 will be playing around with ARKit, a new and better way to run augmented reality applications.

How could an iPhone work without a home button? The status bar is also capable of changing depending on the task because of the limited space. If Apple followed suit, releasing its next iPhone a week or two after unveiling it, the iPhone 8 could appear in stores by September 22.

Speaking of the display, there's a lot of hubbub surrounding the iPhone 8's cutout for its earpiece, front-facing camera and sensors. No button means no more TouchID, but the company's using facial recognition technology to replace the identity verification and purchasing tool - more on that below.

One of the biggest factors of the iPhone 8 that is different from the current iPhone 7 is the fact that it will feature wireless charging.

Interestingly, while Apple's existing phones have squared-off corners, the iPhone 8's display reportedly has rounded corners. The event may take place at the Steve Jobs Theater; part of Apple's new headquarters campus.

It's suppose to be the most expensive iPhone Apple has made in the ten years of it's production. Do you think it adds character to the iPhone 8 or are you not a fan of the "cutout" up top?

As the phone is set to include a carved-out notch at the top of the screen, the report also states the status bar has been redesigned.

Traditionally, Apple's 5.5-inch iPhones were far superior in battery life tests, but that's a direct result of the size difference between a regular iPhone and its Plus version. The iOS charging procedure would be able to check whether the pad providing the inductive power is licensed by Apple else the iPhone would refuse the incoming charge.
