Tauheedul Islam Girls' High School pupils celebrate 'exceptional GCSE results'

Mayville High School Southsea have expressed their excitement at 95% of their pupils achieving five A* to C grades, including maths and English - 15% up on past year.

Some 90 per cent of students were awarded A*-C grades and nearly 95 per cent of students achieved 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths - the best results at A*-C since 2010.

In the key benchmark subjects of English and Maths, the school has achieved a 90% and an 80% pass rate respectively, with a significant number of pupils achieving the highest grades.

The results revealed that 49% of pupils achieved an A*-A or equivalent with 99% achieving at least one A*-C or equivalent.

She said: "I got three A*s, a grade 7 in English Lit and a grade 9 in English Language".

More than 800 Year 11 pupils on the Island sat GCSE and equivalent exams in May and June with some 50 separate examination subjects from performing arts to statistics.

Ninety-eight per cent of students gained five A*-C grades including English and maths, while 41 per cent gained five A*-A grades.
