Donate your eclipse glasses to Astronomers without Borders

And now that the sun is shining bright again, you really don't have much use for them anymore, right?

If your glasses are made by one of the 12 eclipse glasses makers that meet the requirements of NASA and American Astrological Standards, they're good forever.

The organization says they're working on a program that will redistribute the glasses to schools in South American and Asia, which will experience solar eclipses in 2019.

Wondering what to do with those special glasses that were good for an hour or so of viewing the eclipse on Monday?

There's also another total solar eclipse even before 2024.

The next solar eclipse that we'll get to see in America will happen in 2024.

Many local libraries distributed glasses at no charge, but they won't be taking them back. Since the organization strives to bring astronomy-based education to schools, this is pretty much the ideal project for them.

There is always an option for people to simply wear them every day, but owners should not keep the solar eclipse glasses if they have been scratched, punctured, or torn.

Eclipse glasses used to expire, but the ISO 12312-2 standard adopted in 2015 makes the viewers more durable than ever. In fact, there's a decent chance you might move (at least) once during that time span.

A California based organization called Astronomers Without Boundaries is planning to collect as many eclipse glasses as possible to distribute to other countries for future eclipses.

If the frames are plastic, Earth911 says you should throw them in the trash.
