Sensex Ends 25 Points Higher, Nifty Settles Above 9900; Infosys Surges 5%

Stocks consolidated their gains on Thursday after US Fed minutes signalled uncertainties over near-term rate hikes.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 31,919.17 points, traded at 31,834.45 points - up 63.56 points, or 0.20 per cent, from its previous close at 31,770.89 points. Banks continued to be under pressure at the opening bell.

On Thursday, the equity benchmarks ended on a flat note after the indices erased gains in the last hour of trading.

The Nifty50 closed higher by 103.15 points or 1.05 per cent at 9,897.30 points, while the Sensex closed at 31,770.89 points - up 321.86 points, or 1.02 per cent.

Asian stocks edged higher on Thursday, as tensions between the United States and North Korea came off the boil, while the Federal Reserve's concerns about weak USA inflation weighed on the dollar, reported in Reuters.

In pre-open market, Sensex touched 31,927.51 higher by 157 points, while Nifty was up 49 points at 9,945.55.

On similar lines, the NSE Nifty was up by 91.75 points, or 0.94 percent, at 9,885.90. While Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose by 0.14%, Shanghai Composite Index was up by 0.32%.

The stock hit an intra-day high of 1028 and low of 998 on the BSE.

"The announcement of the share buyback supported investor sentiment", said Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Financial Service.

Additionally, Investors in GMR Infra had a field day as the stock gained closed 13 percent higher after a Supreme Court ruled a case in its favour.

Mid- and small-cap indices closed mixed.

Shares of GMR Infrastructure hogged limelight after the Supreme Court of India allowed Delhi International Airport (DIAL) to use airport land for commercial purposes.

Shares of Coal India ended over 4 percent higher.

Infosys buyback also boosted sentiment for other IT stocks.
