China urges India to protect peace after border altercation

Indian and Chinese troops clashed briefly but without any exchange of fire in a disputed area of the Himalayas, officials said today, exacerbating tensions amid the stand-off between the two armies at Doklam that has lasted over two months now.

Chinese troops had managed to enter upto Finger Four area in the region from where they were sent back. The official said the event was marked more informally, with both sides' troops exchanging candies at several places, including the Doklam area, where the stand-off has lasted nearly two months. The standoff has been ongoing for more than 50 days after Indian troops stopped the Chinese Army from constructing a road in the area.

Sources said Indian Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel reportedly formed a human chain and foiled a bid by Chinese troops to enter Indian territory on foot in Ladakh, near the Pangong Lake.

Personnel from both sides received minor injuries and the situation was brought under control after the customary banner drill under which both sides hold banners before stepping back to their respective positions, PTI reported.

China demands that Indian troops withdraw unilaterally from the Doklam standoff before any talks can be held, while New Delhi says each side should stand down. And now it looks like Beijing is making good on its threats as a major scuffle took place between the soldiers of the two countries along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh on Tuesday, August 15. The 3,488 km long India-China border from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh, a 220-km section falls in the Sikkim sector. Beijing also decided not to participate in the traditional ceremonial border meeting on the auspicious occasion.
