Nitish calls on Modi, Amit Shah

According to JD-U sources, the decision to remove Sharad Yadav from the party post has been communicated to the Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.

Mr Kumar's meeting with PM Modi on Friday was his first after he dumped his alliance partners, Lalu Yadav and Congress, last month and returned as Chief Minister within hours, this time with support from the BJP.

The senior party leader has raised questions over the alliance saying that this decision has broken the trust of those who voted for JD (U).

Speaking to this newspaper, JDU secretary general K.C. Tyagi said that the decision to remove Yadav was taken as he was involved in anti-party activities.

On Nitish's claim that the party is not recognized by Election Commission outside Bihar, Srivastava told PTI, "We will not leave the party. This was important due to Yadav's recent actions". Nitish Kumar himself says that the JD (U) does not exist outside Bihar.

Congress high command Sonia Gandhi had invited nearly all the opposition parties to unite as one entity against the BJP-led government on Friday, ahead of the last day of the monsoon session. "He has just been replaced with RCP Singh [as party leader in the Rajya Sabha]". "I met JD (U) president Nitish Kumar at my residence yesterday".

"We are the real one as we are still with the principles of the JD-U, but they have changed and become BJD-U", he added, in a jibe at the Nitish Kumar faction which has sided with the BJP to form the government in Bihar.

Much to the chagrin of Yadav, BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday invited the Bihar chief minister to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"Baat cheet mein Shahabuddin ji ne mujhe kuchh kaha hai kya ki gate kholwa dijye hum nikal jaayen, (Did Shahabuddin ask me to open the (jail) gate?)" Lalu added. "We will fight till the end and go to the masses", said Ansari.
