Netanyahu's former aide to testify in bribery case

Netanyahu, head of the conservative Likud party, has been under investigation for months.

Netanyahu has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in all of the cases.

The prime minister was questioned earlier this year under caution by police over the allegations.

Case 2000 involves Netanyahu and Yediot Aharonot owner Noni Moses, who allegedly made a pact with Netanyahu, according to which the prime minister proposed to use his power to weaken Yediot's main rival, Israel Hayom, by passing a law curbing the latter's distribution in return for Yediot's reduction of negative coverage of Netanyahu's government.

One investigation, Case 1000, centers on allegations that the Netanyahu family received hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of cigars, champagne and other expensive gifts from rich supporters, possibly in exchange for favors from Netanyahu.

An investigation against Netanyahu's alleged corruption has entered a more intense phase.

"Case 3000" involves a $1.5 billion deal to acquire three additional submarines for the Israeli Navy from the German manufacturer ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS).

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must disclose the dates and lengths of the phone conversations he had with billionaire American Sheldon Adelson, publisher of the pro-Netanyahu daily newspaper Israel Hayom. Investigators reportedly have asked if Adelson was aware of the deal. He returned to work with the prime minister in 2014 but resigned a year later amid corruption claims. Netanyahu is serving his fourth term as Prime Minister.

The reporter, Raviv Drucker, has requested the material under Israel's Freedom of Information Law, calling the information of public interest.

"There are political implications to indicting public officials, and the merits of the criminal charges will not be the only factor considered", said Bell, adding: "The public behavior of the police so far seems to indicate they will recommend an indictment, and the recent reported agreement with Ari Harow appears to indicate that the attorney general is leaning in the direction of indicting".
