FATA Commission of Human Rights speaks out in support of Ayesha Gulalai

The scandal erupted on Tuesday after Ayesha Gulalai, a National Assembly member from the conservative Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, announced she was quitting Khan's opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, alleging that he had no respect for women and had sent her obscene text messages.

On by-polls in NA-120 Khan said that he and his party is ready to tackle rigging by PML-N.

A writ petition seeking disqualification Ayesha Gulalai has been filed in Lahore registry of the Supreme Court.

In a televised press conference earlier this week Gulalai accused Khan of harassing female leaders in the PTI and resigned from the party.

PTI lawmaker Shireen Mazari rejected the Prime Minister's suggestion and said that, instead of Imran Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khuwaja Asif should be probed for abusing her in the house. "After all, she is a woman, and I don't want to say anything against her", he said.

The disgruntled PTI MNA had accused Imran Khan of sending inappropriate text messages to her besides raising questions about the character of the cricketer-turned-politician. "I was astonished to hear that".

The accusations have evoked a social media storm and provoked a debate on sexual harassment in Pakistan.

The human right activist said that if PTI or its leadership in FATA take law in hands then it will be called hooliganism and tribal custom if someone supports to be used in such cases then woman is oppressed and innocent and people stand with her against male.
