US Navy Ship Fires Warning Shots Over Iranian Patrol Boats

While the interaction occurred exclusively between the Thunderbolt and the Iranian vessel, there were a number of other US ships in the vicinity during the encounter, McConnaughey said.

A U.S. Navy patrol boat fired warning shots Tuesday near an Iranian vessel that American sailors said came dangerously close to them during a tense encounter in the Persian Gulf, the first such incident to happen under President Donald Trump.

Iran unveiled its latest air defence missiles on Saturday.

The USS Thunderbolt fired warning shots at an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vessel Tuesday after the vessel failed to heed to other requests and warnings to halt. After the Iranian vessel did not respond to radio calls, flares, or warning sirens, USA sailors were forced to fire warning shots.

"The Iranian vessel's actions were not in accordance with the internationally recognized".

The video shows the Iranian boat coming near the bow of the USA ship, which the Navy said was within 150 yards.

In January, the destroyer USS Mahan had fired a flare, warning sign, a ship of the Guardians of the iranian revolution which was approaching him. The Iranian ships had approached the US ship at high speeds and didn't respond to requests to stop.

Iran and the USA frequently have tense naval encounters in the Persian Gulf.

Back in June, the USA claimed an Iranian boat aimed a laser on a US helicopter accompanying a formation of American ships in the Strait of Hormuz, at the mouth of the Persian Gulf.

The Iranian boat is believed to have been operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps...

The boats had been on their way from Kuwait to Bahrain and experienced engine trouble, according to the U.S. Navy.
