Chelsea vs Bayern Munich: Premier League champions beaten 3-2

Bayern, after a humiliating 4-0 loss to AC Milan on Saturday, were looking a much-improved side as Rafinha's low shot gave the Germans lead with just six minutes played.

Morata came on as a 63rd-minute substitute in the International Champions Cup clash with Chelsea trailing 3-1 and had a hand in the Blues' second goal, scored by Michy Batshuayi.

Bayern's largely dominant performance is all the more impressive when you consider they were missing key players such as Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcantara and Arjen Robben.

Before the Blues could catch their breath, Bayern had doubled their lead as James Rodriguez - starting out wide on the right - picked out Franck Ribery on the opposite flank.

Ah, the weird and wonderful world of pre-season friendlies.

Conte will have noted the lack of focus from his players at the start of the game and that should inform his preparations for the defence of the Premier League title.

Thibaut Courtois could have done better for that one - but his defenders were guilty for the rest of Bayern's goals.

Rafinha set the tone for the day as he put Bayern in front in the 6th minute before Thomas Mueller scored two goals in the 12th and 27th minute.

Ribery was again the architect when Bayern made it 2-0 after 11 minutes, skipping into the box and cutting the ball back into the path of the onrushing Muller, who volleyed home from close range. Boga could not beat goalkeeper Tom Starke after latching onto a Cesc Fabregas pass in the first half, but his overall performance was positive, with his pace and power causing Bayern problems.

"It's too early to speak about the impact of Morata", Conte said.

Both sides made regular substitutions in the second half with Chelsea bringing on Morata, a reported £70 million ($NZ123 million) recruit from Real Madrid on Friday, who looked sharp despite only joining up with his new team on Monday.

Morata flew out to Singapore and linked up with the Chelsea squad after completing a £70m move from Real Madrid and putting pen to paper on a five-year deal last week.
