Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze resigns; report cites link to escort service

Hugh Freeze resigned Thursday as the head coach of Ole Miss football after admitting to personal misconduct. Neither the lawsuit nor the NCAA investigation required knowledge of Freeze's possible sexcapades to be made public; this move was one of a man that felt he had been unduly wronged, fighting for nothing more than his honor (and punitive damages, of course).

Most people won't ever remember that, not after multiple media reports point to a 1-minute phone call to an escort service sparked an internal Ole Miss probe that Athletic Director Ross Bjork said "discovered a pattern of conduct that is not consistent with our expectations as the leader of our football program".

"Because the call lasted less than one minute and did not appear at the time to be part of a pattern, we initially attributed this call to a misdialed number", Bjork said. All because Freeze had the audacity to USE HIS SCHOOL ISSUED CELL PHONE TO HIRE PROSTITUTES.

According to Bjork, had Freeze not resigned, the university would have "exercised the termination clause in the contract for moral turpitude".

Bjork said "it's hard to say" if there will be any roster changes. "There will be a lot of time to conduct a search for a permanent head coach".

The calls were brought to the attention of the Ole Miss brass after one of Nutt's lawyers, Thomas Mars, filed a public records request for Freeze's phone records over a six-day period that included January 21, 2016, the day Freeze rang the escort service number. Freeze told Forde the call "might have been a misdial".

Ole Miss also announced that co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Matt Luke will take over as the interim head coach. "He was a young kid from the Gulf Coast of MS and his brother had played quarterback at Ole Miss". In the meantime, Luke needs to find a replacement for himself, bringing Ole Miss up to the maximum of nine assistant coaches.

ESPN's Mark Schlabach said that he spoke to Freeze about the allegations.

Freeze, 47, was hired from Arkansas State before the 2012 season.

"It's terribly sad to see Coach Freeze gone".

An imagine circulated around Twitter Friday of Kiffin's recent follows on Twitter, and they're all associated with Ole Miss football.

This will not be the first time that Luke has had to deal with adversity at Ole Miss.

In the 2018 Rivals team rankings, Ole Miss is now 48th, and the Rebels have to assume at least a couple of them will be poached by rivals in the wake of this Freeze disaster.

Shea Patterson was the nation's consensus top-rated quarterback in the 2016 recruiting class.

While many experts have expressed doubt that Luke will last past one season on the job, Cuevas believes Ole Miss already has the man to lead the program past its most recent embarrassment and the potential impact of any further NCAA sanctions.
