Skydiver Told Wife He Wasn't Going to Pull Cord

Capotorto Vitantonio jumped from a plane Tuesday morning about 10 a.m., just seconds before the crew received a message from dispatchers on the ground, urging them to stop him, according to a police report.

Litellini had just received a video from him, saying he was "not going to pull the cord and that he was going somewhere wonderful", police said.

Mike Johnson, Sky Dive DeLand's general manager - one of the United States' busiest skydiving points - told the News-Journal: 'We give our [customers] a safe ride to altitude and we transport them using aircraft that has been considered the best maintained in the industry.

Mr Capotorto, an Italian national who lived in DeLand, was an avid sky-driver who had made more than 600 previous jumps.

Tragically, it was too late, Capotorto was already on the plane and attempts to make a radio call were unsuccessful - he had already jumped.

The centre said Mr Capotorto was a licenced sky-diver with the appropriate training to jump alone and had paid for the flight.

"We can confirm the man was found wearing parachute equipment and it appeared to be partially deployed", Graham said.

Vitantonio's was employer was United Parachute Technologies, which is also based in DeLand, according to Time.

Tara Richard, an employee at the skydiving centre, told police "he had seemed normal" when she saw him before take-off.

A spokesman for Skydive DeLand told the Washington Post that they offer their deepest sympathy to Vitantonio's family and friends.
