Google Pixel 2 rumors: price, specs and release date

We all know that the Google Pixel 2 is coming, especially after the praise heaped on last year's models.

The Pixel XL 2 - the device codenamed "Taimen", made by LG, will be featuring a 5.99-inch 1440p OLED panel from LG, and thankfully, sport smaller bezels than the original Pixel XL. Google recently invested in LG's display division to secure capacity for Pixel phones, so hopefully LG's panels can compete with Samsung's.

That said, what constitutes as an upgrade for the Pixel 2 will be in terms of processing power, as it has the same Snapdragon 835 and 4 GB of RAM as the Pixel XL 2. Stay tuned for more info.

While Google is busy readying the iterative upgrades for its Pixel devices, the rumor mills have started chugging out information. In its place, Google may incorporate stereo speakers by utilizing the bottom firing speaker and the earpiece.

Overall the new Pixel 2 devices are shaping up to be mostly consistent with current flagship devices in the market this year from a hardware standpoint.

"Taimen", on the other hand, will be a bigger iteration of the Google Pixel 2.

It is also reported that the older model will have OLED display of 5.99 inches with a resolution Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) from LG. Google has not yet announced a release date for its Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, though as a point of reference, its first generation Pixel phones came out in October of previous year.

Also known as "Walleye", the Pixel 2 will be fitted with a 4.97-inch 1080p FHD display, similar to the 2016 Pixel. This move will not go down well with audiophiles and seems unusual considering how proudly Google stated the fact that the original Pixel came with a headphone jack at its launch event.

While we're near certain both phones will use the Pixel branding, XDA's source notes the larger handset actually uses the "Nexus Imprint" name to refer to the fingerprint scanner rather "Pixel Imprint". From the look of things, Google dropped the midsized smartphone, choosing "Taimen" over it instead.

Further, it is going to pack the Snapdragon 835 with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of Storage.

Not to say it won't be a great handset and will be the VR king but I want more.

Not long ago, we saw buzz surrounding references to upcoming Pixel devices in AOSP - publications with sources informed on the matter went on to report about the existence of three Pixel devices, respectively equipped with a small screen, a large screen, and of course... an even larger screen.
