Putin makes fun of Comey's testimony about Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin took a jab at former FBI Director James Comey Thursday by offering him asylum in Russia should he face political prosecution in the US for leaking information to the media.

Speaking at his annual question-and-answer session in Moscow, Putin compared Comey to Edward Snowden and called him a "civil activist" before making his offer of asylum.

Putin also likened Comey to Edward Snowden, a contractor who leaked thousands of secret documents from the National Security Agency and has been living in Russian Federation since being granted asylum in 2013. In passing, Putin offered James Comey asylum in Russian Federation https://t.co/fPo3k4GQnd- The New York Times (@nytimes) 15 juin 2017 Putin said it was "strange" that, while still Federal Bureau of Investigation director, Comey had passed the contents of a conversation he had with Trump to the media via a friend.

Putin also said that Comey has so far presented no evidence to prove that Russia had meddled in the us presidential election, saying Washington had tried to influence Russian elections for years.

When asked about increased Western sanctions in response to Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 United States elections and the country's intervention in Ukraine, Putin described them as "unexpected".

He played it mostly straight on U.S.

"By the way, if he faces some sort of prosecution in this regard, we are ready to give him political asylum as well".

The Russian president also criticised the United States senate approval of new sanctions against Moscow.

Asked about a wave of protests across Russia, Putin said he was "prepared to talk with everyone who genuinely wants to improve people's lives and solve the country's problems", but dismissed unnamed opposition leaders for "exploiting the problems instead of offering solutions".

"He is not going to do that, because he was a public official, who was responsible to the Constitution, therefore he would defend that position, say: 'I defend the constitution, I didn't do anything wrong, and I will answer all your accusations, and I don't have to run away from anything, '" McCauley added.

He also derided efforts to strengthen US sanctions against Russia: "Nothing has changed why are they talking about sanctions - it's evidence of domestic political problems in the U.S". So we can find an agreement, we can work together.

The president admitted the number of Russians living in poverty has grown in recent years while noting that "the recession has ended" and the economy has seen "modest" growth over the last three quarters.

Putin also noted that Moscow hopes that the USA could play a "constructive role" in helping settle the Ukrainian crisis, an offer which we doubt will be favorably met by the Pentagon.

Putin has two daughters with his ex-wife, Lyudmila.

Should Comey accept asylum in Russian Federation, I see an R&B/emo/soft-core rap/metal band on the horizon.
