IOS 11 Will Stop App Developers Abusing Location Permissions

"Your app contains images and references of Pepe the Frog, which are considered objectionable content", an Apple App Review Board employee wrote in a rejection notice to Spirit Realm, Vice's Motherboard confirmed.

Not all developers out there want your birth certificate and bathing schedule, but enough have proven themselves less than scrupulous over the years, so anything Apple and Google do to help users limit data collection and location tracking is always welcome.

To put an end to the app review prompts Apple have designed new rules regarding app review prompts and how frequently the developers are permitted to request them. In addition, a new tab called "Today" features the daily additions to the App Store.

Turns out, scammers are abusing Apple's relatively new and immature App Store Search Ads product. I mostly discovered that I've still got a ton of calculator apps on there, for whatever reason, and a lot of writing apps, too.

I scrolled down the list in the Productivity category and saw apps from well-known companies like Dropbox, Evernote, and Microsoft.

The most recent Pepe debacle was sparked after a certain game by app/game developer Spirit Realm Games posted an entry on the App Store known as Pepe Scream, which was taken down prompting the publication site to do even more research on the matter. The app is essentially Finder for the iPad but features several improvements that not even the Mac now has.

Developer Johnny Lin got curious during Apple's WWDC 2017 keynote, when CEO Tim Cook announced a $US70 billion ($93 billion) payout to developers from the App Store. The answer, according to the report, is search ads. Apple will now apply its feed-based approach to both Apps and Games, which means that app developers do not need to compete directly with game developers for attention on the front page of the App Store. I get that they can't be expected to catch everything, especially if a developer goes to significant lengths to disguise the true nature of an app, such as waiting for a certain length of time after installation before offering sketchy in-app purchases.

Subscriptions and In-App Purchases can also be purchased directly from the App Store outside the app which will be helpful for large brands on the App Store who are big on the Freemium model. As a result, entertainers and more content creators can make more money or even create higher quality digital content.
