Another Uber executive allegedly stepping down over scandal

This news comes just ahead of Uber's board of directors meeting in Los Angeles on Sunday to discuss the findings of an investigation into the ride-hailing company by former attorney general Eric Holder.

The report, conducted by former USA attorney general Eric Holder, has already been distributed to the board, Recode reports, and it follows the termination of dozens of Uber employees and the disciplining of others for incidents related to sexual harassment charges in recent months.

On Tuesday, Uber will report suggestions from a parallel survey regulated by previous U.S. Lawyer General Eric Holder.

The recommendations in Holder's firm's report are expected to force greater controls on spending, human resources and other areas where executives led by CEO Travis Kalanick have had a surprising amount of autonomy for a company with more than 12,000 employees, a source familiar with the matter said.

An internal report, released this week, found at least 47 sexual harassment claims made by current and former employees. Additionally, the board also discussed the possible departure of some of Kalanick's top executives like business chief Emil Michael.

A source raised the prospect that Kalanick could take time off while sweeping changes to management practices were made.

Privately valued at $70 billion and operating in 80 countries, Uber seems to have as much potential as it does scandal.

Uber's board has only one independent director, Arianna Huffington, who joined previous year and who has been a staunch supporter of Kalanick. In January, the #deleteuber campaign took off on social media over the company's pricing during a taxi driver's strike related to President Donald Trump's immigration ban, during which time it was perceived that Uber had tried to capitalize on the strike.

In addition to firing 20 employees, Uber said Tuesday that it was hiring an Apple marketing executive, Bozoma Saint John, to help improve its tarnished brand.

Holder's recommendations for the company include a shakeup of Uber leadership - including a three-month leave of absence for Kalanick.

And now it could all fall on beleaguered company CEO Travis Kalanick, whose future is currently being decided by Uber's board.

Uber VP of product and growth Ed Baker left the company in March amid alleged complaints about his behaviour.

More incidents like this could continue to surface, as a second report which will cover culture and diversity at Uber will be published next week.

Kalanick has reportedly proposed the idea of taking time off after his mother's death in a recent boating accident.
