Trump Hotels Unveils Plans for American Idea Lodging Chain

Eric Trump, left, and Donald Trump Jr., executive vice presidents of The Trump Organization, pose for a photograph at an event for Scion Hotels, a division of Trump hotels, Monday, June 5, 2017, in NY.

"We saw so many places and towns and so many stories", Donald Jr. said about the new hotels at a Trump Tower party.

The first hotels are expected to open relatively soon in MS, locations that will simply be rebranded from other hotel chains.

All of the MS hotels are owned by Chawla Hotels, but the Trump Organization still receives management and franchise fees.

Describing the Trump team as "very polished people and sophisticated operators", Chawla said among the reasons that he wants to partner with them is that "they have developed hotels at such a high level". The properties will come up in Cleveland, Clarksdale and Greenville in Mississippi.

Before Trump took the oath of office, he announced a series of steps to allay concerns that his sprawling business holdings could lead to conflicts between doing right by the country and his own financial interests.

Suresh Chawla, President of Chawla Hotels and his brother own the property.

It also opens the door for foreign financial conflicts, since diplomats could see bookings at Trump hotels as a way to curry favor with the President.

Well, now the famous family is launching a new brand in the hospitality space, and it won't bear that recognizable name on the side of the building.

The Trump Organization executive added that President Trump's sons, who have taken over business operations while he's in office, saw space for a chain of hotels in small and midsize cities during their father's campaign past year. Danziger wouldn't say how many American Idea hotels he hopes to build, but he talked big in an interview.

This marks a departure from the luxury brand Trump Hotels, or the more-recently launched brand known as Scion, which offers four-star accommodations. He has said that any deals go through an "exhaustive, thorough" review.

Government ethics experts worry that developers seeking to curry favor with the president will be eager to help him in his new chains. Certainly the theme of the new franchise falls in line with the USA-first attitude of Trump's campaign, which championed the American yesteryear. The Scion hotel, expected to open by the end of the year, will be managed by Trump Hotels.
