Microsoft Reveals Asus Mixed Reality Headset, New Design from Dell

Han highlighted a diverse mix of Windows 10 devices that take advantage of new capabilities such as enhanced inking, built-in game broadcasting, and advanced security all captured in lovely hardware designs.

After the Oculus-Ready ROG gaming desktops and VR-Ready VivoPC X, Asus is now trying to break through the mixed reality segment with a unique new headset that comes with a "futuristic" head-mount device and a polygonal 3D cover panel, which has been designed with an adjustable strap for easy one-hand setup. Today at Computex 2017 for the first time we are seeing the official pictures of the Mixed Reality Devices from Dell and Asus with some details.

Microsoft delved into key areas of focus that it believes will inspire customers, increase momentum in the PC market with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and finally stimulate merging categories including Windows Mixed Reality and Azure solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Because these headsets all conform to the Windows Mixed Reality standard, they are all universally compatible with the same VR software that's built-in to Windows 10, and they will work broadly with the same apps and games.

What that means is each Windows MR could have wildly different specifications from each other. They're based on the same reference design, provided by Microsoft, and have the same shape as already seen in headsets revealed by Acer and HP.

Lenovo's headset promises an immersive, affordable experience with built in sensors for tracking.

Note: I had the opportunity to try out the Acer HMD at Build 2017 in the Datascape demo and I was very impressed with the experience from how comfortable the headset was to the visual effects as I interacted with the 360 degree virtual environment.

As a leading gaming and innovation partner, ASUS is expanding on its prowess into the fast emerging mixed reality category.

The headset is created to be powerful, HMD fast and very light with a six-degrees-of-freedom tracked motion controller. Inside-out tracking enables the device to accurately keep track of its position relative to its surroundings without the aid of external sensors and other tracking devices. The headset will launch this holiday and will include a weight balanced headband, replaceable cushions, cable routing, and a flip-up visor.
