Russia Fires Underwater Cruise Missiles At ISIS Near Palmyra

Russia's Defense Ministry says its forces fired four cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea to hit Islamic State targets in Syria.

The ministry says it notified the US, Turkish and Israeli militaries before the strike on militants at the UNESCO World Heritage site.

It added the attack was promptly executed following the order, paying testimony to the Russian navy's high readiness and capabilities.

Russian Federation has been conducting a bombing campaign since 2015 in support of President Bashar al-Assad and has a naval contingent deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to bolster its firepower.
