President Trump saluting US military personnel in Italy

President Trump on Saturday concluded his first trip overseas as commander-in-chief with a speech at the Sigonella Naval Air Station in Sicily, where he said the nine-day tour was a home run.

U.S. President Donald Trump, center, speaks with President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou as they attend a round table meeting of G7 leaders and Outreach partners at the Hotel San Domenico during a G7 summit in Taormina, Italy, Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Mr Trump said he had helped forge more worldwide cooperation in the fight against Islamist militants, a threat he said was underscored by a suicide bomber in Manchester, England, and the killing of Coptic Christians in Egypt. Most notably, soon after Trump touched down in Sicily for the final leg of his trip, news surfaced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the role his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner held during the campaign and transition, including his contacts with Russian officials. To all of humanity and together we will overcome this threat.

The president tweeted that he'll make a final decision next week on whether the US will stay in the Paris climate agreement. Trump has been unable to fully escape the Russian Federation controversy, but the pace of events, meetings and focus on foreign policy have distracted him in ways he won't be in Washington.

Both Cohn and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster refused to take questions about the latest Russia-related news report alleging Trump son-in-law and top aide Jared Kushner had discussed setting up a secret back channel with Russian Federation during the transition period.

The nine-day trip — Trump's first as president — took him to Saudi Arabia, Israel and Belgium, along with a pair of stops in Italy. His top economic and national security advisers refused to answer questions about Kushner during a press briefing Saturday.

The White House in March confirmed that Kushner and Kislyak met at Trump Tower in December for what one official called a brief courtesy meeting.

Meanwhile, the FBI's criminal probe into Russia's election meddling pierced Trump's inner circle for the first time on Thursday.

Backing out of the climate accord had been a central plank of Trump's campaign and aides have been exploring whether they can adjust the framework of the deal even if they don't opt out entirely. "I think we hit a home run no matter where we are".

But almost half of that speech was spent recounting his perceived accomplishments, from concluding an arms deal with Saudi Arabia (it had been years in the making) to forcing North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies to increase how much they spend on defense (a commitment they agreed to in 2014, under former President Barack Obama). Two of those six leaders are members of the "Five Eyes" intelligence-sharing agreement with the United States.

"I am so proud of the future you are going to have", he said.

"Money is starting to flow in", he said.

It is not clear what money Trump was referring to, but Germany has pledged to increase defense spending with the target of reaching 2 percent of GDP.

Knowing the president's receptivity to flattery, the Saudis pulled out all the stops and gave Trump a red-carpet welcome, a horse-borne escort on his trip to the royal palace and a lavish party that included a traditional sword dance.

Kushner's lawyers have said he will cooperate with the newly appointed special counsel.
